First Love
Introduction: Candy found this poem in our 13-year-old daughter's notebook, written on a little yellow scrap of Chamber-of-Commerce notepaper. It's clear that our little girl is discovering that sublime emotion that we call love.
(Please note: This poem is posted here with her explicit approval. She's thrilled to bits that I'm putting it up on my blog :)
I remember, when I was a little child, A dear friend came to me. He had come in from the wild And he made me feel so free.
When we would together play, Only I ran around all the while. He would stand in one place And give me the world's sweetest smile.
I remember, when I was young I had gorgeous long hair. All the boys would come and talk to me, My friend would just sit and stare.
When I was feeling low, I cried and hugged him tight. I would feel his warmth flow As he hugged me back with all his might.
